In part 3 of this video series, Paul moves on to reverse engineer a more complicated component of the oil pump (the housing). Similar to the approach he’s taken in part 2 of the video series, he uses 3D scanner data as a reference to sketching CAD. He does all the design work in SOLIDWORKS using a plugin called Mesh2Surface.
In this video series, Paul shows how to use a 3D mesh (stl) as a basis of design and his thought process behind the decisions that he makes while he creates the parametric CAD model of the entire oil pump.
