https://gomeasure3d.com/blog/apple-vision-pro-3d-scanning-drive-content-creation/#respondTue, 27 Feb 2024 23:17:51 +0000https://gomeasure3d.com/?p=27511With the release of the new Apple Vision Pro, we are excited that Apple has finally entered into the VR/AR/MR headset market. We'll take a closer look at this new device and how 3D scanning can fuel the creation of 3D assets.
We’ve waited a long time for the next revolutionary product from Apple, and it’s finally here. The Apple Vision Pro was first announced at Apple’s 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference last June. There has been a lot of speculation and hype surrounding the technology ever since. Apple has finally entered the virtual, augmented, and mixed reality space (VR, AR, MR). Expectations are high regarding what the Apple Vision Pro can do and how it will disrupt this market.
“Today marks the beginning of a new era for computing. Just as the Mac introduced us to personal computing, and iPhone introduced us to mobile computing, Apple Vision Pro introduces us to spatial computing. Built upon decades of Apple innovation, Vision Pro is years ahead and unlike anything created before—with a revolutionary new input system and thousands of groundbreaking innovations. It unlocks incredible experiences for our users and exciting new opportunities for our developers.”
Wearable technology (VR/AR/MR headsets) has been around for quite some time. In 2016, Oculus Rift was introduced as the first high-quality yet affordable VR system for consumers.
Back then, the Oculus Rift felt as revolutionary as the recent release of the Apple Vision Pro.
As many tech reviewers have already noted, whenever Apple enters an existing market, the company redefines it and significantly grows the segment. Interestingly, with the introduction of the Apple Vision Pro, Apple created its own category, labeling the headset a ‘revolutionary spatial computer.’ This device seamlessly blends digital content with the physical world, termed by Apple as ‘spatial experiences’ instead of using the term mixed reality (MR). It operates on Apple’s first spatial operating system, visionOS.
In Apple’s initial press release about the Apple Vision Pro, the company distinguishes itself from the traditional VR/AR/MR market by branding the device as a spatial computer. “The era of spatial computing has arrived,” declared Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.According to Apple’s app development documentation, developers are instructed not to refer to their apps as AR, VR, MR, or XR, but rather as spatial computing apps.
Apple consistently aims to create the best product in its market segment. Think back to 2007, when the iPhone disrupted the smartphone market dominated by players like Palm and BlackBerry (smartphones that no longer exist). As many can attest, using any Apple device is so inherently intuitive that it feels almost second nature. Apple’s vision for the Apple Vision Pro is no exception. With this new product, the company is set on elevating the VR/AR/MR headset market to a whole other level.
Intuitive Controls
The headset provides an immersive experience with a fully 3D user interface like no other. It is also the first consumer headset to not use controllers; you navigate naturally with your hands, eyes, and voice.
Relive Your Memories in 3D
The Apple Vision Pro is Apple’s first 3D camera. You can capture spatial videos and photos in 3D. You can relive those cherished moments in an intimate, immersive environment. Additionally, you can use the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to record spatial videos, and then experience in 3D on the headset.
The Future is 3D
Apple spent more than a decade on the development of Apple Vision Pro. Their entrance into the VR/AR/MR market now signals significant changes moving forward. We are already witnessing a substantial investment by developers in this product, with hundreds of apps launching on day one. Content creators are likely to follow suit. From what we’ve seen, the future of content creation is heading towards 3D. The best part? Apple Vision Pro empowers anyone to become a 3D content creator.
Adding 3D Content to Apple Vision Pro
You can add 3D objects created with 3D software or 3D scanners in the USDZ, USDC, and USDZ file formats. Source: Apple Vision Pro User Guide
With the ability to upload and share 3D models in Apple Vision Pro, spatial computing completely changes the 3D visualization experience. You don’t just view 3D models in an immersive 3D space. You can interact with them with your hands, making it seem as natural as if the object is right in front of you.
As bengeskin on TikTok sums this up, “Playing with 3D models on Apple Vision Pro is incredible Resolution is so high, that digital objects look very close to the real thing.”
Interacting with hyper-realistic 3D models on Apple Vision Pro is like magic. Imagine interacting with an ancient artifact that a museum has 3D scanned. Or, If your business involves selling a product—consumer goods, furniture, or even cars—how cool would it be for customers to interact with a 3D model of your product in the comforts of their own home before purchasing?
You can upload a 3D model to any 3D model hosting platform and attach a QR code to it. When a user clicks on the QR code, the headset will open the 3D model and let the user view it.
This fresh approach to 3D visualization unleashes endless opportunities for individuals, companies, and organizations to creatively use Apple Vision Pro, transforming the way we engage with information in a constantly evolving world.
Targeting the Mass Market
When Apple launches a product, it garners widespread attention and a substantial increase in technology adoption. In contrast to Meta Quest, which primarily focuses on a niche market comprised mainly of gamers, the Apple Vision Pro aims at the broader consumer market.
“Experts say that Apple has made a crucial tweak in its marketing rollout for the Vision Pro: the company is focusing not on winning over hardcore gamers, but trying to normalize the idea of wearing a headset for everyday usage. Munster [longtime Apple analyst] estimated that about 40% of the apps on the Vision Pro are gaming-related, compared to more than 70% available on the Quest.”
Priced at $3,499 compared to the Meta Quest 3’s base price of $499, Apple Vision Pro is a premium product compared to the price tag of existing consumer VR/AR/MR headsets already out in the market.
Apple offers its technology at various price ranges, ensuring that individuals wanting an Apple product can find one at a cost-effective price.
While the Apple Vision Pro currently carries a hefty price tag, a more budget-friendly model of this headset will probably be introduced. Reflecting on Apple’s track record with products like the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, the company typically debuts top-tier premium models first, then later expands its reach with more accessible options at varying price points. It may not be long before we witness a surge in the adoption of Apple Vision Pro as more affordable versions of the headset hit the market in the future.
Apple Technology Base vs. Pro Models (US prices)
Apple Watch SE: $249
Apple Watch Series 9: $399
Apple Watch Ultra 2: $799
iPhone SE (base model): $429
iPhone Pro Max (premium model): $1199
iPad 9th gen (base model): $329
iPad Pro 12.9” (premium model): from $1099
Apple Vision Pro’s Apps
On the launch day of Apple Vision Pro, there were 600 new apps specifically built for the hardware were introduced. Currently, there are not a lot of truly immersive 3D apps that take full advantage of the hardware compared to standard apps for the device.
Marques Brownlee explains the current Apple Vision Pro app situation.
As we have seen in the past with Apple products like the iPhone and the iPad, apps play a big role in contributing to the success of Apple’s hardware. With Apple’s first entry into the headset market with Apple Vision Pro, we’re going to see a similar trend with a surge in developers motivated to create new apps for this new up-and-coming technology. The hardware launch is just the beginning of app creation for Apple Vision Pro. As developers get their hands on the headset, explore its capabilities, experiment with it, and push what is possible, it will inspire innovative ideas and encourage more developers to create 3D content for this new immersive environment. App developers and 3D content creators will undoubtedly shape the future of Apple Vision Pro.
Apple provides ample resources, including visionOS SDK, to support developers in app creation for the new Apple Vision Pro.
Apps like Complete HeartX help prepare medical students for clinical practice. Using hyper-realistic 3D models and animations, they can interact with these elements in a 3D environment. These training exercises will help them better understand and visualize medical issues like never before.
The Need For High-Quality 3D Digital Assets
With the anticipation of more developers creating apps for Apple Vision Pro, there will be a demand for a quick and easy way to create high-quality 3D digital assets. We’ve witnessed the use of 3D scanning in movies, TV shows, and video games for CGI applications. One of the ways to accelerate 3D content creation is to use a professional 3D scanner to scan environments or objects to capture ultra-realistic, high-resolution 3D models (or digital twins) of the real world. With a professional 3D scanner, objects can be scanned in just a few minutes.
Apple Vision Pro features an ultra-high-resolution display system that packs 23 million pixels across two displays—more than a 4K TV for each eye.
Professional 3D scanners output far superior raw scan data quality and less noise when compared to consumer-grade 3D scanners or iPhone 3D scanners for 3D asset creation. Developers would need high-resolution 3D scans if they want to create realistic or immersive 3D experiences for Apple Vision Pro.
High-resolution 3D models using Artec 3D’s professional 3D scanners. They can scan an object in 3D as big as a semi-truck to as small as an insect. Lidar 3D scanners can even capture entire scenes or environments.
For a long time, professional 3D scanners from companies like Artec 3D have been used in movies and video games to speed up the conventional CGI workflow. For instance, Farm 51’s multiplayer First Person Shooter (FPS) World War 3 used the Artec Leo and Artec Space Spider to digitally capture people, uniforms, weapons, equipment, vehicles, and other props. These digital 3D assets were then used to create a hyper-realistic gaming environment.
Similar to creating CGI for video games and movies, professional 3D scanners can become instrumental in speeding up the pipeline in the creation of immersive 3D environments for Apple Vision Pro’s apps.
Will the Apple Vision Pro Be A Success?
Excitement for Apple Vision Pro is high because it promises a truly unique experience and a glimpse into the future. Its success hinges on both the utility and the quality of its apps. The success of Apple Vision Pro lies in the hands of 3D content creators and app developers.
At present, 3D content for the Apple Vision Pro is still in its infancy, presenting significant opportunities for tools like 3D scanners to help expedite content creation and app development. We’re excited to see how Apple’s headset will shape the future of technology.

https://gomeasure3d.com/blog/what-it-takes-gold-certified-ambassador-artec-professional-3d-scanners/
Thu, 27 Jul 2023 15:00:35 +0000https://gomeasure3d.com/?p=25891Paul, COO of GoMeasure3D, is proud to announce that our company has once again achieved the status of Artec’s Gold-Certified Ambassador this year.
]]>As the COO of GoMeasure3D, I am proud to announce that we have once again achieved the status of being Artec’s Gold-Certified Ambassador this year. Only 12 out of 131 companies from around the world have been awarded with this title. It is truly an honor to be one of them.
“The title of Artec Ambassador is awarded to partners who possess Gold-level accreditation, offer Artec 3D’s full range of professional 3D scanning technology, and have taken the promotion of this technology to an exceptional level.”
GoMeasure3D proudly represents Artec’s professional 3D scanners throughout the United States. In order to attain this achievement as an Artec Gold-Certified Ambassador, we have to surpass the responsibilities of a reseller. It is a testament to our unwavering dedication and hard work.
GoMeasure3D has been an Artec reseller for more than seven years. We have achieved the Ambassador status since the very beginning when the program was first introduced back in 2020.
GoMeasure3D became Artec’s first Gold Certified Partner Ambassador in the United States in 2020.
Earning the Gold-Certified Partner Ambassador status is not guaranteed each year. We have to undergo a rigorous recertification process every year and have to demonstrate our profound comprehension of Artec’s ecosystem and mastery of all their products. Here is what it takes to get this recognition.
Rigorous Assessment Test
A requirement for obtaining certification as an Artec Gold-Certified Ambassador is that our staff has to take an assessment test to show a deep level of understanding of Artec 3D’s professional 3D scanners, as well as Artec Studio 3D scanning software. We are grateful to the Artec team for their support and commitment to continuous and thorough training for resellers.
The questions evaluate a reseller’s knowledge in scanning, processing, and customer support. We value the importance of this certification process. It not only validates our expertise but also empowers us to serve our customers with the highest level of proficiency and support.
Artec as a 3D scanner manufacturer has always been a leader in bringing innovation within the 3D scanning market. Consequently, we have to be proactive in keeping up-to-date with the company’s new developments. We were blown away when Artec Leo, the world’s first handheld 3D scanner with onboard processing, first came out. And we couldn’t believe Artec’s Studio HD Mode can take an existing Artec 3D scanner and make it perform like a brand new system! Updating our 6 years old Artec Eva software to the latest version made all the difference. It takes our team a lot of commitment (countless hours) to learn and become Artec technology experts.
Work Closely with Artec’s Development Team in Product Testing and Development
As a Gold-Certified Ambassador, we are privileged to enjoy exclusive access to new 3D scanning products. Additionally, we are among the select few entrusted to test beta versions of Artec’s latest software developments prior to the official launch, ensuring the development of exceptional 3D scanning products. The engineers at Artec hold our opinions in high regard, valuing our valuable feedback and expertise.
The Artec team puts their trust in us to be the voice of our customers. Our team meticulously tests features and functionalities from a user’s perspective and provides constructive feedback to improve their 3D scanning products. We have a great partnership with Artec’s development team. Our team is constantly in conversation with Artec’s engineers to continuously improve and refine their products in bringing the best 3D scanning experiences to their customers. This is the reason why every year Artec puts out a major software release of Artec Studio 3D scanning software, the engine that powers all of their 3D scanners from handheld to metrology-grade 3D scanners.
Artec Cloud first impression video
We were given exclusive access to using Artec Cloud before the launch. Here’s our first impression video.
Providing Exceptional Levels of Customer Service
“By purchasing from a Gold Certified Reseller or Ambassador, end users have access to verified products and professional training of the highest level in their local language.”
To be an Artec Gold-Certified Ambassador, we have to show that we provide exceptional customer care and an all-round excellent experience for our customers. All of the members of our technical team are power users of Artec’s 3D scanners and software. We know how to use each system inside and out to provide anyone looking to buy a 3D scanner the best and most honest advice.

https://gomeasure3d.com/blog/promotion-get-30-off-geomagic-design-x-essentials-scan-to-cad-software-until-may-31-2023/
Mon, 01 May 2023 05:31:13 +0000https://gomeasure3d.com/?p=24858Extended! From now until June 30, 2023, enjoy 30% off the regular price of Geomagic Design X Essentials software. This promotion makes Geomagic’s Scan to CAD software more accessible than ever before.
DEAL EXTENDED! From now until June 30, 2023, enjoy 30% off the regular price of Geomagic Design X Essentials software. This promotion makes Geomagic’s 3D reverse engineering software more accessible than ever before.
Over the past decade, 3D scanners (even professional ones) have been coming down in price. It’s a natural progression to see that complementary software is following a similar trend. In 2022, Oqton released Geomagic Design X Essentials (Dxe), an entry-level version of its flagship 3D reverse engineering software, Geomagic Design X. As its name suggests, the new version distills the key toolsets of its iconic Geomagic Design X Scan to CAD solution—but at a fraction of the price of its full-fledged version of the software.
What Can Geomagic Design Essentials Do?
Geomagic Design X Essentials makes it easy and more affordable to reverse engineer existing products and use them as a starting point for the new design. You can acquire the 3D surface measurements of an object with a 3D scanner, and then take full advantage of Geomagic Design X Essentials standalone software to build out editable, feature-based CAD models faster and more accurately than you would designing them from a blank canvas.
With Geomagic Design X Essentials, you can
Save Time and Money: Scan prototypes, existing parts, tooling, or related objects, and create designs in a fraction of the time it would take to manually measure and create CAD models from scratch. Shave days or weeks from product idea to finished design to get them faster to market.
Design Better Products: Many designs are inspired by one another. Learn from it. Reuse it. Improve on it. Easily rebuild your existing parts into current CAD data, and create drawings and production designs.
Build Custom Products: Create products that cannot be designed without reverse engineering, or customized parts that require a perfect fit with the human body. Create components that integrate perfectly with existing products. Recreate complex geometry that cannot be measured any other way.
Design X Essentials Workflow
Here is a short video demonstration of Geomagic Design X Essentials:
Product information on Geomagic Design X Essentials is available here:
who have reverse engineering needs that may not currently require the entire set provided by Geomagic Design X.
with components of low to intermediate complexity.
who may only work on reverse engineering projects on an ad-hoc basis.
has an affordable 3D scanner and want to use it for doing Scan to CAD applications.
wants the reputable Geomagic brand of Scan to CAD software without paying for the full version price.
Comparing Geomagic Design X Essentials Versus Geomagic Design X
Not everyone needs the full version of Geomagic Design X. Geomagic Design X Essentials comes with fewer features and at a lower price than the full version. As your business grows or applications change, you may require the ultimate reverse engineering toolkit. It’s easy and straightforward to upgrade your Design X Essentials license for a Design X license. All you need is to pay the difference by applying the price of the Design X Essentials license to the Design X license and first-year maintenance.
This diagram compares the differences between the two software tiers.

What You Will Learn
In this webinar, we go deeper into the benefits of combining scan data from multiple 3D scanners including:
The advantages of having a larger scanning volume of one scanner and the high resolution and accuracy of another
3D scanning deeper into small cavities of large objects
Increasing the resolution of your scans where it matters
Making it easier to scan challenging objects
We’ll spend most of the webinar demonstrating how to process and combine scan data from all five Artec 3D scanners: Ray, Leo, Eva, Space Spider, and Micro.
This is an interactive session where you will be able to send in questions throughout the demonstration and we’ll adapt the presentation to give you all the answers.
The Artec Team scanned a church facade using the Artec Ray and Leo. They used the two scanners and merged the results. This enables them to get a larger field of view to scan the entire building with the Ray while capturing the details of the building with the Leo. Interact with the 3D model on Sketchfab
This webinar is ideal for anyone:
who already has an Artec 3D scanner and is looking to get the benefits of another system (accuracy, resolution, larger field of view, speed, scan deeper into cavities) by combining 3D scanning results
who is looking to purchase a 3D scanning solution that can benefit from the strengths of multiple 3D scanners
